What happened?

La Canadienne has been the victim of a cyber incident that has affected some of our customer’s personal information. The breach was quickly identified and the compromised system was secured. However, during the course of our investigations, we determined that some of the data transmitted through the online store were exposed, including the credit card information from your www.lacanadienneshoes.com online purchase between November 21, 2022, and January 30, 2023.

Have my payment details been exposed?

We have reason to believe that the transaction information was exposed, including:

  • Credit Card Number
  • CVV Number
  • Billing/Shipping Address
  • Email Address

Could a transaction be made without my authorization?

We determined that some of the data transmitted through the online store were exposed, including the credit card information from your www.lacanadienneshoes.com online purchase between November 21, 2022, and January 30, 2023. Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to notify you of this incident now and suggest that you take the necessary steps to cancel this credit card immediately in order to prevent any potentially fraudulent activity.

Was my email compromised?

Your email address may have been exposed and, as a result, you may receive unsolicited emails.

Was any other personal information exposed due to the attack?

We have reason to believe that the transaction information was exposed, including:

  • Credit Card Number
  • CVV Number
  • Billing/Shipping Address
  • Email Address

Do you retain any other information in the impacted systems?

We retain customer purchase history, but only the actual transactional data between November 21, 2022, and January 30, 2023, was impacted.

I do not have a saved credit card in my online account with LaCanadienneShoes.com. Do I still need to cancel the card used for payment on this compromised order?

We do not store the actual card information details on our site and it is not possible to save your credit card information in your account on LaCanadienneShoes.com. In the case of this incident, your card information was exposed during the actual transmission of the transaction you placed. Therefore, yes, we would advise that the safest course of action would be to cancel your card to prevent any potentially fraudulent activity. Of course, ultimately, the decision is yours.

I was expecting a refund from La Canadienne. What happens if I cancel my credit card?

If your credit card number has changed but is for the same account used at the time of purchase (e.g., a new card has been issued for the same account), the refund will be processed to that account. If you don't see a refund in your account balance within 3 business days, please contact your bank.

What new measures has La Canadienne taken to ensure its customer’s personal information is secured?

Upon discovering this incident, La Canadienne immediately retained the services of IT specialists to contain the incident and investigate the circumstances and impacts surrounding it. Please be assured that we are taking all the necessary measures to prevent such an event from happening again. In particular, additional security parameters have been implemented in our system and we are conducting regular cyber security assessments. Furthermore, we are currently contacting all relevant authorities. We are committed to the security and privacy of our customer's personal information and are providing all affected customers with a complimentary one-year subscription to a credit-monitoring service.

What else can I do to protect myself?

To protect yourself from the possibility of identity theft, we recommend you immediately contact your credit card company and inform them that your card information may have been compromised, so that they can issue you a replacement card. Review your credit card statements and report any suspicious activity to the relevant financial institutions.
